Guerrila Trek: A footsteps of Maoists (18 Days)

The trek corresponds to a geographical area newly opened remote but easy trekking route, has been recently explore for trekking and known as Guerilla Trekking in tourism industry of Nepal.
This trek begin from Beni Bazar, by crossing western region of Nepal and ends at Sulichour after 13 days walking  in rukum district mid western region of Nepal which is proposed as  federal state of Magar "MAGRAT".This area is dominated by ethinic group of Magar and marginal people of Nepal well known as Dalit(Low cast people). This was hidden trails for the maoist during the political confliction of Nepal.Since, the political confliction between Maoist and government so many structure were distroyed during the People war of Maoist. Still, We can find fossils of  distroyed buildings and people of victims during the war on this trail. Guerilla Trekking offer relatively mild magnificent views of the mountains(amazing mountain views of Dhaulagiri range to the east, Saipal and Api Himal peak to the west), rich vegetation and will introduce you to the culture (SORATHI in Western Region AND DEUDA SONG in Mid-Far Western Region of Nepal) and lifestyle of the people, so why not take advantage? So, It is totally non tourist, local, original and authentic trekking route. The trekkers can get different and unique experience than other trekking.

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu & Transfer to Hotel (1,350m)
You will be welcomed by the boss of  our company at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu (1300m). After completing your custom formalities (Visa, etc) pick up your luggage and look for our company display board at the arrival gate. You will be then transferred to Hotel. After check in, you will visit our office; meet your trekking guide as well as other participants. Later in the evening we will organize a "Welcome Dinner" at an excellent Tourist Restaurant where you will enjoy with a fine meal. Overnight at hotel.

Day 02: Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Trek Preparation

Full day of sightseeing in the very famous capital, Kathmandu. We will be visiting of the famous heritage sites in Kathmandu Nepal.

Morning, we will start from your hotel by a morning walk in the blocked alleyways of Kathmandu. Your first contact with the smiling Nepalese people.We begins to cross the nice area of Thamel, full of nice shops, bars and restaurants.

We will see during this walk many temples and stupas: it will be for you the beginning of religious lessons, making the difference between Buddhists stupas and Hindu temples. You will discover with a great surprise how these two religions live together. We will make a stop at Thahiti Tole, then in front of Kathesimbhu stupa. Always meeting statues and local shops (suits, spices, incenses, and so on) and listening the noise of bells (and of horns), we will see Asan Tole with wonderful Hindu temples. Then Indra Chowk and Pyaphal Tole. After 2 hours of walk and of wonder, we will arrive at Durbar Square. All the most important monuments of the city are in this area. You will be filled with wonder by all these numerous such majestic and so ancient temples registered in the Heritage of the UNESCO. It is possible to spend hours, sat on the walk of one of these monuments, admiring architecture, considering the animation of places, dreaming. We will take lunch at Durbar Square in the top of a restaurant, with a great plunging view.

 Afternoon, you will begin the afternoon by another walk in the streets of Kathmandu, to look at the real face of this city, with local buildings and narrow streets. Then we will arrive at Swayambunath Stupa (Monkey Temple). It is said that Swayambunath Stupa is more than 2,000 years old, and it symbolizes knowledge. At the summit of this hill, the painted eyes on all four sides symbolize the all-seeing power of Buddha. It is an important Buddhist place where pilgrims from all over the world come. From this place we can have a wonderful panoramic view on all the capital. So great at the end of the day, with the sunset. We will come back hotel by bus.

 Evening: Time for you to prepare the trek and we introduce in front of you our crew members. Dinner at hotel. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03: Kathmandu to  Beni  Bazar 830m,8 hours drive by bus.

Day 04: Beni to Takam 1665m (6hours)

From the Beni we leave along gravelled road for 24km to Darbang and start walking. Takam is three hour walk away with Gurja Himal towering overhead.


Day 05: Takam to Lamsung 2250m (6 hours).

This is the main effective area of war between maoist and government during the political confliction in Nepal. This is where the scenery starts getting even more dramatic. The local people will share terrible history of fighting period  with us.
 
Day 06: Lamsung to Gurjaghat 3020m (7 hours)

Climb up through dense pine forests with musk deer darting in the undergrowth. The green meadows on the ridge offer 180 degree views of Mount  Dhaulagiri Himalayan ranges  the entire ranges up to Churen Himal to  the west.

Day 07: Gurjaghat to Dhorpatan 2860m (5 hours)

This day you will cross the Magdi and you will reach in Baglung district where you can visit former Tibetan refugee Camp of 1950s. You will enter the very famous only one Hunting Reserve in Nepal, "Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve". Any professional hunter around the world can be hunt the wild animals with special permits.
              
Day 08: Dhorpatan to Nisi Dhor (5 hours)

This is the paradise for birds. Watch danphes, pheasants, and other migratory species that you have seen only in bird guides. Hard to imagine that people fought a war here. There are cow sheds in the monsoon, but in winter these high pastures are deserted.

Day 09: Nisi Dhor to Tallo Sera(7 hours)

We cross the Baglung district to reach in  Rukum district which is proposed as  Magar autonomy federal state "MAGRAT".  It was former Maoist base area during the confliction period.

Day 10: Tallo Sera to Rujhikhola(6 hours).

We Walk to Lukum Village in Rukum where we can find majority of  ethnic Magars and Dalits(Marginal People of Nepal) of Nepal. This village looks like medieval  untouched by the modern life style.

Day 11: Rujhikhola to Thabang(5 hours)

Thabang is the cradle of the Maoist revolution. It was damaged in army attacks and parts of the town were flattened by 'tora bora' mortars shells dropped from helicopters. Many maoists and local people were killed. But after Republic of Nepal local infrastructure is being developed slowly.
             
Day 12: Thabang to Jaljale(5 hours).

Main altitude point of this trek is Dharampani (3900m) in Jaljale from where we can have super magnificient views of  Dhaulagiri Himalayan range to the east and Api Himal peak recently known climbing peak and very famous Saipal Himal peak in the far west of Nepal. The place where Peoples Liberation Army(PLA) was given weapons training during the war.

Day 13: Jajala to Jelbang(6 hours)

We descend from the altitude in mixed ethnic  cultural village.
              
Day 14: Jelbang to Suliochaur(6 hours).

We finally arrive in Rolpa district headquater. This was the main headquator  of maoist  in mid west during the war. We can find local restaurants run by maoist co-operatives. People are so kind and friendly. Some we meet the family were killed during the confliction.

Day 15: Sulichaur to Kathmandu(13 hours by bus)

It is too long journey by bus so we suggest to our clients we can stop in mid route to have local lodge or hotel to minimize the distance for next morning.

Day 16: Sulichour- Stop for a night in mid route-Kathmandu.

Day 17. Kathmandu sightseeing and shopping

After breakfast, we will take local bus to go Pashupatinath. it takes 40 minutes then we visit Pashupatinath. This temple, classified in the heritage of the UNESCO, is very famous among the Hindus of the whole world. We discover the ghats where take place in the rituals of cremation, according to Hindu tradition, along the sacred river Bagmati. This river throwing itself into the Ganges, a cremation in this place get the same symbolic value as in Varanasi. Stakes and bodies are orientated northward, towards the Himalayas, which is the cradle of the Hindu Gods. Don't take pictures: meditate simply some minutes in the sense of this earth life, and impregnate you with this ambience, so strange according to our Western values.

The access to the Golden temple is only reserved for the Hindus, but it is possible to discover it on the bank of opposite, easy sat on one of the terraces. Both footbridges which cross this river allow to achieve a big series of stone terraces, adorned with dozens sanctuaries of Shiva. We will cross there surely numerous sadhus.

Then we take the hill up, in the middle of monkeys' cloud. We go down towards the imposing temple of Guhyeshwari, where only the Hindus can visit it.

After the crossing of a small hanging bridge, we walk to another site of worldwide heritage: Boudhanath. During this walk, we can see the various lifestyles and styles of houses of this city. We also cross numerous shops: here is the true life of the inhabitants of the capital!

After 30 minutes, we arrive at Boudhanath, which is the seat of the Tibetan community having run away in Nepal in 1959",. Millions of Buddhists visit every year this sacred place. Will be possible to us remain insensible to the extraordinary charm of this very spellbinding place!

This large esplanade is encircled with many shops and thirty Tibetan monasteries with marvelous gilding. Let's make turn at pleasure mills, the smallest and the biggest! Which extraordinary vision to see all these believers, young people and old, turning continuously around imposing stupa, by singing mantras, by lighting lamps with oil, and by prostrating itself.

This Stupa, of 100 meters of circumference, was undoubtedly constructed at origin in the 7th century. This huge mandala is of an absolute favor. The dome whitened persistently in the lime constitutes the plinth of the gold arrow (to 13 degrees) adorned with the fabulous eyes of Buddha. Every thing makes an absolute harmony.

It is possible to enter inside the surrounding wall of the Stupa and to walk on one of the terraces.

We take lunch in Boudhanath, on the terrace of a panoramic restaurant, with plunging view on the Stupa and you will be again fascinated by the eyes of Buddha which encircle you at all times! Here is a celestial environment for you!

In the afternoon, leisure to go shopping in search of different gifts for your family and your friends, in Boudhanath and in Thamel.

In the evening, we perform a "farewell dinner" with all members of this walking.

.Day 18:  Farewell Friends
You are saying good bye to the mountains as your journey in Nepal comes to an end today! There is nothing to do but trade emails with your travel companions and organize your photos. You will be transferred to the Airport by The Boss of Nepal Assemble Treks before 2 hours of flight with nice farewell. On your way home you'll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.

Note: All participants must submit a copy of their insurance, with address, phone and fax from the insurance company. This insurance must cover the helicopter rescue in case of accident or illness. In the event that your insurance does not cover the helicopter rescue, you must complete a Kathmandu and sign an agreement stating that you pay yourself the amount of expenses paid by Nepal Treks Assemble your helicopter rescue or fees of research. Without this agreement, you may not participate in this trek.

During the duration of the trek, the guide is allowed to change the route depending on weather, climate and the physical condition of participants. Each participant who stop his trek or make changes to the program may not claim any compensation money to the agency.
